A huge card is being worked on by IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn for November or December with Kubrat Pulev the potential opponent for Joshua, David Price vs. Joseph Parker, and Dillian Whyte vs. Dereck Chisora. The card doesn’t have a definite date yet, but Hearn says it could be in November or December in Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
Pulev vs. Joshua would be the main event on the card. It would be a voluntary defense for Joshua, who has already made one defense of his International Boxing Federation title last June against previously unbeaten 2012 U.S Olympian Dominic Breazeale at the O2 Arena in London, England. The results of that fight saw Joshua stopping Breazeale in the 7th round after giving him a bad beating.
Joshua was being mentioned as potentially fighting Bermane Stiverne, but it looks like he’s been swapped out for Pulev. It’s a good fight, Joshua vs. Pulev, because it gives the British heavyweight a chance to fight a former world title challenger with a lot of talent. Pulev has a long amateur career in Bulgaria, and he’s one of the best heavyweights in the division. It’s a big step up for Joshua from his last fight against Breazeale and in his previous one against Charles Martin.
“It could be November 26th in Manchester but we are also looking at the possibility of a big night of heavyweight boxing at the Principality Stadium,” said Hearn to the Dailymail. “We are talking maybe about David Price v Joseph Parker, Dillian Whyte v Dereck Chisora and then Anthony Joshua v Kubrat Pulev all bundled into one – it could be a lot of fun. It could be either late November or in December – we will definitely have the roof shut given the time of the year!”
I almost feel sorry for heavyweight David Price, because this is really bad match-up for him in having to deal with Joseph Parker. I can understand why Price is willing to take the fight, because if he wins the fight, the payoff will be immense, because he’ll get a world title shot against Joshua. I’m not sure who’s idea it was for Price to take on a dangerous puncher like Parker. If it was Hearn’s idea, then it seems like a self-serving move on his part because Price doesn’t stand a chance of winning the fight against the 24-year-old Parker.
Yeah, Price has a lottery like chance of beating Parker, but I think the odds of him winning the contest are very remote. Most likely we’ll see Price knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round by Parker.
As for the heavyweight match between Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte, this is another fight that I see as being a mismatch. Whyte has only one good arm ever since his surgery on his left shoulder. He can’t punch with his right hand, and he’s got poor stamina. Chisora CAN punch with both hands and his stamina is superb. I see it being a bad night for Whyte.
