Hank Lundy decisions John Delperdang – Results

Former light welterweight title challenger Hank Lundy (27-6-1, 13 KOs) bounced back from his loss to WBC/WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford to defeat John Delperdang (10-2, 9 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Friday night at the B.O.O.M Fitness Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The judges scored the fight for the 32-year-old Lundy by the scores 118-110, 119-109 and 119-109.

Lundy had been out of action with a knee problem since losing to Crawford by a 5th round knockout last February. It was a disappointment for Lundy, as he was never really competitive against Crawford in that fight. Last Friday night though, Lundy looked sensational in beating the over-matched Delperdang by an impressive 12 round unanimous decision.

“I’m ready to make a statement at 135,” Lundy said via Fight News about his win over Delperdang.

Lundy gassed out in the second half of the fight and wound up taking big shots from Delperdang in rounds 6, 8 and 9. Lundy had built up enough of a lead for him to cruise to victory, but it definitely wasn’t a good sign to see him taking punishment from a guy that wasn’t in the same league as him.

Lundy had to rely on his boxing ability in the last four rounds to keep Delperdang from landing some big shots. You have to wonder whether Lundy took this fight seriously because it should have been an easy fight for him.

I don’t know about Lundy being able to make a statement at lightweight, but at least he’ll stand a better chance in that division than he will at 140. Lundy doesn’t have the punching power, speed and most importantly the talent to make big waves at light welterweight. That much was evident in his loss to Crawford last February. At lightweight, Lundy would need to prove himself against guys like Terry Flanagan, Robert Easter Jr., Jorge Linares and Dejan Zlaticanin. Those would be tough outs for the aging Lundy, who may have seen better days in his career.

Former four division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner was reportedly in attendance to see Lundy fight. Lundy wants to fight in February against a still to be determined opponent. It would be nice to see him fight Broner, but the two of them appear to be going in different directions right now.

Other boxing results on the card:

Christopher Nelson decision 4 Trevir Ballinger
