Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is impressed with the physical condition and the seriousness of Wladimir Klitschko, and he believes he’s coming with some serious intent for his fight against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Lewis says Joshua should be careful with Wladimir because he looks like he’s in good shape and ready to try and pull of an upset in this fight. It would be a big shocker if Wladimir won, but not altogether surprising given his experience, size power and physical condition.
“It’s going to be an exciting fight,” said Lewis about the Joshua vs. Klitschko fight. ”By the looks of Wladimir, he looks in good shape. He’s been really contemplating and thinking. He looks like he’s here for serious business,” said Lewis.
Wladimir weighed in at 240.5 pounds on Friday’s weigh-in for the Joshua fight. This is the lowest weight for Klitschko since his fight with Ruslan Chagaev in 2009. That was 8 years ago.
“I haven’t seen too much of what he’s learned,” said Lewis about Joshua. ”I’m hoping he’s going to show me a good jab and some boxing ability. I think out of all of the opponents for Joshua, this is the toughest opponent. He should tread carefully. It’s not that easy. Klitschko is an old guard for boxing, and an old champion. He knows what it is to keep a crown for so long, and he knows what it is to lose it. So he may be plotting to say, ‘Yo, I’m coming for you, camp,” said Lewis.
