By Rich Cheney: Tony Bellew says Kell Brook is going to be avoided by the top fighters when he moves up to 154 in the near future. Bellew believes that the top junior middleweight champions like Jermell Charlo will want nothing to do with Brook (36-2, 25 Kos). Why they want to avoid Brook is impossible to know, as he lost his last 2 fights by knockouts to Errol Spence Jr. and Gennady Golovkin.
In both fights, Brook suffered broken eye sockets. Book proved to be incapable of making it the distance. It would seem to me that the top fighters at 154 would be anxious to fight Brook knowing that he’s going to get tired and injured at some point.
“He lost the last 3 rounds before the stoppage,” said Bellew to IFL TV about Brook. “The writing was on the wall. Do you think any welterweight is going to fight Kell Brook? Not a chance. Do you think any light middleweight champion is going to want to fight Kell? Not a chance. Them Charlos ain’t going to pick Kell Brook. All the light middleweights aren’t going to fight Kell Brook. These welterweights aren’t going to pick to fight Amir Khan. Why would they? He’s a nightmare to fight. he was ahead after 8 rounds for me,” said Bellew about Brook. “It was all Errol after 8 rounds. He [Brook] was slowly fatiguing, and then 9, 10, he lost clearly. He was hurt badly in the 10th, and then he went down,” said Bellew.
I totally disagree with Bellew about the top guys at 154 wanting no part of Brook. On the contrary, I see the top fighters at 154 chomping at the bit to get a fight against Brook so that they can knock him out too.
