By Manuel Perez:Carson Jones (40-11-3, 30 KOs) thinks the management for former 2-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (40-8, 27 KOs) made the mistake of picking him to fight this Saturday night, as he believes he’s going to take the fight to the 39-year-old to wear him down and stop him.
Margarito will be facing Jones this Saturday night at the Gimnasio Manuel Bernardo Aguirre, Chihuahua, Mexico. The fans will motivate Margarito to knockout Jones.
Jones, 31, is 8 years younger than the nearly 40-year-old Margarito, and he’s the far more active of the two. Margarito is coming off of a 1-year layoff since his last fight on August 13 against Ramon Alvarez, who he beat by a 10 round split decision. Margarito was also out of boxing for close to 5 years from December 2011 o March 2016 after he retired.
Margarito came back in March of last year in beating Jorge Paez Jr. by a 10 round unanimous decision. Margarito was knocked down in round 6 of that fight. However, he came back to almost stop Paez Jr. in round 10.
“What I believe is going to happen is, I’m going to go in there and stay on him, stay on him, keep beating on him and I’m pretty sure he’ll fold. I’m prepared to go the 10 rounds and I’m prepared for a tip-top, young, hungry Antonio Margarito,” said Jones to RingTV.com.
Jones has looked so bad at times, it’s hard to picture him beating a former world champion like Antonio Margarito. Even with Margarito looking past it last year against Roman Alvarez, he still fought a lot better than what I saw of Jones in his defeat to Brian Rose in 2015.
Margarito has had problems in his career, but he was always a very talented fighter. Talent like that doesn’t come around too often. Margarito is younger than Floyd Mayweather Jr. Margarito will have more than enough to beat Jones.
