By Rich Cheney: Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe went on a rant on Thursday, bellyaching about how the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight isn’t sold out yet, and how Golden Boy Promotions head honcho Oscar De La Hoya is supposedly jealous of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s event against UFC star Conor McGregor on August 26.
Ellerbe got himself really worked up to the point where he seemed to have some serious issues.
Mayweather-McGregor still hasn’t sold out for their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are reportedly THOUSANDS of tickets still available for the fight. With the prices of the tickets costing a mint, it’s not surprising that there are still tickets on sale.
Someone must have reminded Ellberbe about the fact that the fight isn’t sellout, because instead of addressing that, he went off on a tirade about how Golovkin vs. Canelo isn’t sold out. It seemed like Ellberbe had displaced anger. He should have been upset about Mayweather’s fight not selling out. I’m just saying.
“The event is not sold out, and there are thousands and thousands and thousands of tickets still available, and they have a good fight by the way,” said Ellerbe in going on a rant about the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight. “I’ll be one of the ones that purchase the pay-per-view. It just goes to show you, it’s all be design to hate on someone else’s event. You’re just mad because you couldn’t be part of it. You really tried. You definitely tried. He has this personal thing. Get over it, and move on,” said Ellerbe about Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “He’s so obsessed with Floyd Mayweather. It’s the truth; writing open letters to the fans. Who does that? What do you have to gain? What are you mad at? You had an incredible career. You have a very good promotional company. You have some good fighters. Why are you worried about what his man has going on? Jealousy is a terrible thing,” said Ellerbe.
