WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) will be defending his title against mandatory challenger Eleider Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) on January 27 at the Videotron Center in Quebec, Canada.
Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel broke the news of the Stevenson vs. Alvarez fight date to RDS.
It’s been 4 years since Stevenson last defended his WBC title against one of his mandatory challengers. The last time Stevenson defended against a mandatory was in his knockout victory over Tony Bellew in 2013. It’ll be good to see Stevenson face a quality opponent for once, as it’s been quite a long time since he faced a real threat.
Stevenson has defended his WBC title 8 times since winning it against Chad Dawson in stopping him in the 1st round on June 8, 2013.
Alvarez, 33, is looking better than ever with his 2 recent victories over Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute.
