Eddie Hearn says he’s already had a couple of conversations with former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury about a big fight against IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in 2018 or 2019.
Speaking with IFL TV, Hearn revealed the news of his conversations with the 29-year-old Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) for a fight with Joshua.
Fury is looking to stage a comeback in 2018, as soon as he’s given clearance to resume fighting by the UK Anti-Doping agency and the British Boxing Board of Control. It’s looking very good that Fury will be able to start fighting again.
It’s been 2 years since Fury last fought in 2015 with his win over Wladimir Klitschko.
Hearn says he sees Fury vs. Joshua as being a bigger fight than Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder. Joshua-Fury would play out well in the UK, but not so well in the U.S. Hopefully when/if the Joshua vs. Fury fight gets made, Hearn doesn’t try and sell the fight outside of the UK. It’s not a fight that will sell in the U.S.
Fury is expected to take 2 or 3 tune-up bouts to get ready before he faces Joshua. Hearn wants Fury to show that he’s serious about his comeback so that the boxing public will buy into the Joshua-Fury fight as being a legitimate one, and not just a money grab.
