By Rich Cheney: It’s becoming increasingly apparent that IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is ducking a fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Joshua’s promoter, the wily Eddie Hearn, seems to be his enabler, allowing him to duck Wilder instead of taking the fight.
The boxing public is getting sick of Joshua’s ducking, as is Wilder, who says he’s “declaring war upon” him, and pounding on his Kingdom door to get him to come out and meet him on the field of honor.
“I’m coming,” said Wilder to Joshua via fighthype. “You can only deny me for so long, and you can only make excuses for so long. There’s no excuses. I’ll be waiting. Let’s get the fight on. Let’s give the people what they want to see. I want to unify the division. Nothing is going to stop me until I get there and do that,” said Wilder.
After Wilder knocked out his mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne last Saturday night in New York, he let the boxing world know that he’s waiting for Joshua to face him. The fans want o see the fight, and it’s got to happen now.
It’s too bad Joshua is ducking the fight with Wilder. I think it’s a failure of both the spirit and the flesh in Joshua’s case. He doesn’t want it, and his body, which is packed with useless muscles, doesn’t want it either.
It’s so sad how Joshua is ducking Wilder. Oh well. Some guys aren’t cut out to be champions. It looks like Joshua is another Audley Harrison. I’m just saying.
